Karen Laird My husband, Fred, is a
retired New Mexico State Policeman. His
entire 20 years with the force was as a patrolman (by choice). During the course of his career he had
witnessed one of the worst State Pen riots in US history, been shot in the line
of duty (and survived) and dealt with every aspect of law enforcement that a
cop can. The state police psychologist
told, at one time, that he had been exposed to more violence over his career
than most Vietnam Vets that she had seen in her years of counseling.
Because of our faith in our
Savior and our stubborn character to: “not let the Turkeys win”. We have been able to work through whatever
life has thrown at us and have had numerous opportunities to offer support and
encouragement to our fellow officers who found themselves facing tremendous
crisis’s that no person should ever have to face alone. During these times, God has provided the
grace and the courage for us to stand with our friends and “family” so that we
could weather the storm together.
