Credit for the title of this posting and its concept goes to "my brother in blue" Darrell Robertson of the Houston Police Department, who knows this phrase all to well. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me Brother Darrell!

So you have just "hooked a crook" for some offense, and so far so good! You have placed the arrestee securely in the backseat of your patrol vehicle with little effort (or maybe a great deal of effort) and you are safely separated from your subject who is now ersiding behind a metal cage. You tune the radio to a great worship station and start driving towards the jail. But are you really safe?

Towels And Basins Print E-mail

Jesus ... laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself; ...and began to wash the disciples' feet." (John 13:3-5)

Recently, I received an e-mail from one of our Peacekeeper’s, Glen Cooper, in Conway, Arkansas who signed his e-mail “Towels and Basins”. Glen explained that his pastor always signs his letters with the statement “Towels and Basins” as a way to always remember that even Jesus was willing to the menial jobs that no one else wanted to do, such as to wash someone’s feet. To provide for others with a servant’s heart. Some times as law enforcement officers we can get hung up on the “titles of life” and forget what we are all called to do Biblically. To work with the lowly, the poor, the people who need immediate answers to life’s questions, to hear from the only government official that they have access to at 0300 am or at anytime for that matter.

There is a story found in the Bible under Luke 10 it is commonly called “The Parable of the Good Samaritan”. It describes the Samaritan who kneels in the dusty ditch to wipe the blood and dirt from the face of a Jew who has been beaten, robbed, and left to die. One by one, others have seen the poor fellow, and then "passed by on the other side”. They may have pitied him, shuddered a little, and even wiped from their cheeks a tear or two. But they did not have the sort of love that leads at once to action. The Samaritan had such love, and he did everything in his power to show that love by deeds.

For police officers that means to do whatever is needed to be done despite rank, status, or position. Don’t ever forget that you are called to this position for a life of “service”. You are called to provide service with a “servants” heart. To do the menial jobs that no one else in government wants to deal with or even care to know about for that matter.

As Christian law enforcement officers you are in the best possible position to lead not only your fellow officers to a life with Christ, but to the citizens with whom you encounter on a daily basis. Stop seeing “Otis” the town drunk as just a person who can’t handle his alcohol but rather a person who may be fighting demons and needs to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ in an immediate way.

Until Next Week!

In His Service,

Mike

Time to once again grab a cup of coffee with God and think about another inportant topic as I end another shift and think back on the lessons I had the opportunity to learn.

Tonight, for my last call of the night, I responded to a 911 disconnect call. If you have been in law enforcement longer than 30 days you will know that 911 disconnects can be anything from a child playing on the telephone to a murder in progress. Whenever, I get one of these calls, being as tactically sound as I can, I approach the residence from a distance and on the walk-up listen for anything that may provide a clue as to what is going on inside the residence that resulted in 911 being called.

This night was no different, or so I thought. As I approached the front door I heard a female in a verbal argument with a male. As I rang the doorbell, I heard the male voice say; "Oh, great! Now you've done it the cops are here". Little did this man know that due to recent budget cutbacks there were no "cops" it was only "a cop" but I was carrying the best back-up partner ever.....AMEN!

Keep reading to learn what Happened as God and I continued the call.

Galatians 5: 16-21

We all have heard of the battle between good and evil at one time or another in our lives. Some call it the battle of light and darkness. We often hear it put as a spiri-tual warfare. We are in a world of only two spirits, warfare of the Spirit of God and the spirit of Satan. We, as man have the free will to make decisions. So, the ques-tion becomes of “what spirit are we?” We have heard many definitions of the word “flesh”. You see, flesh is not the things we do, but it is our thinking or thought that is “flesh”. Before we are tempted, and before we sin, it starts with our thinking and in our thoughts. From here we make our decisions or motives and it becomes an ac-tion 2nd Peter 2:19 tells us ... if anyone lets himself be dominated by anything, he is a slave to it... This action then puts us into a situation that we choose. Sometimes we make wrong decisions that may be costly to us.
We are constantly challenged in our journey as Christians in this world, but we must uphold who we are, by walking in the spirit of God. As we have read in the scripture reading (Galatians 5:16) But I say, "Walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh." The flesh dislikes the spirit, they are opposite of each other. Walking in the spirit of God is living the Christian way of life to the best of our abilities as possible. We all fall short from the glory of God, but we must continue to do our best. I close with this; for those who are according to the flesh set their minds not on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.
The Bible in James 1:13-16 states the following; 13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: 14But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 15Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. 16Do not err, my beloved brethren.
My dearest brothers and sisters in Christ, be the light in your workplace, be the “Christian Cop” God intended us all to be. Walk with the spirit of God and let Him be our guide in all things. It is a dangerous and violent world. We must continue to fight the good fight and stand tall for Jesus. We are to serve and protect in a Godly manner. Remember to Pray, pray and pray! You are the light of the world and the salt of the earth. We can win with total reliance towards God, walking in His spirit.
Pray this prayer for strength.
Our Father, thank you for the opportunity to fellowship in your word. Be with us al-ways and give us all the strength to walk in Your Spirit. Give us the courage to do Your will and ways. Give us the blessing only you can give, as we walk, drive, and respond to the call of the needy, the innocent; protect us from evil and darkness. In Your name we pray, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Amen.

I have been doing quite a bit of traveling lately and I will be doing between 1500 and 2000 miles of local traveling in the next six weeks as I fulfill my annual duties as the local Marine Corps League Detachment Toys For Tots Chairman. While I travel I have a lot of time to think about life as I know it and I often wonder what life is like for those individuals who are traveling on a dead end road. You see, I believe my life is a journey and not a destination, so my road of life never ends and, as I often told my kids when they were growing up, there seem to be no rest areas along life's highway either. Now in case you think I am some how different from you, think again. Your road never ends either. Our Creator has endowed each of us with eternal life. Our task while we are here on earth is to locate the salvation road that leads to the top of the mountain (Heaven) and direct others toward it as well. You see a lot of roads go down the mountain but only one of those roads leads to the top. Jesus Christ said that He is the Way, the Truth and the Life and no man commeth to the Father but by Him. It is beneficial every now and then to glance down at your GPS (Gods Positioning System) and check out your 10-20. Read on to see if you are using the right maps to guarantee to get where you want to end up. You see it is easy to end up where no one in their right mind wants to end up, just get off the spiritual road and follow the world down the pathways of pleasure.
